Brown Hooded Kingfisher
The brown hooded kingfisher is the only kingfisher in Southern Africa with a brownish streaked head and upper breast. It is common resident and mostly sedentary. They eat mainly insects, but also geckos, small chameleons, skinks, young birds, snakes, fish, crabs and rodents. They are monogamous and nest in horizontal tunnel excavated into a vertical bank.
